Cross Flow Scrubbers

In Cross Flow Scrubbers, the gas flows in a horizontally provided packed bed, while the liquid is sprayed from top through a network of nozzles. Packing provides the extended surface area for mass transfer as in vertical packed bed columns. The liquids collected at the bottom, is recycled back. Mist eliminator are provided at the gas outlet end to trap the entrained liquid. These scrubbers can handle large volumetric gas flow rates, require lesser liquid flow rate (L/G) and hence specific power consumption and also provide lower pressure drop, smaller headroom and are easy for maintenance. Cross flow scrubbers are commonly used in scrubbing the ventilation exhaust gases from the process areas in chemical and metallurgical industries.
